Get rid of the print curl -look at the bottom for the mailing tube method.

This course will use medium format digital backs, Pro DSLR’s and
professional scanners to produce large digital files. Using these files,
we will print to professional wide format printers. Prerequisite: PHO
250B or instructor permission.

Class rules:
1) 1st person in the classroom prints first. You must be ready to print. No working on the print station computer. Files should be retouched, sized, sharpened and ready to print. •••Sign Up on the white board when you arrive•••
2) Don't be late for class. Slides, discussion, how to -this is the core of the class.
3) Negativity and sarcasm ruin the class. Constructive opinions are welcome, I am open to opinions that are thought out and expressed appropriately. Not every photographer/artist I show in class will you like. That is OK, remember I am showing it for a reason and I hope you intellectually explore the imagery.
4) Work consistently, don't procrastinate. Aim for 1-2 finished images per week to succeed in this class.
3) Have fun, explore, share ideas, have an open mind, be respectful or others, work hard, shoot more, print BIG.

If the link say print. Print It... place it in the notebook, you bring to class. This info will help you complete the class succcessfully. Read and explore all other links for the week, before coming to class. This will keep you informed and move you forward in your exploration of the big print. The PDF's are also useful to print for your notebook, but not necessary. if the link does not say print or PDF it is a link to another website.

The Making of a Fine Art Photograph

Giclée print or Inkjet print, what is the difference?
What is the difference between a giclée print and an inkjet print? Technically, they are the same. Giclée is simply a loosely translated French word for “spray of ink.” And technically, both giclée and inkjet prints are made by spraying ink onto the surface of a material, most commonly watercolor paper, canvas and photo-like paper.

However, in the print world, giclée has become synonymous with fine art reproductions printed on watercolor paper or canvas using a high-end inkjet printer and pigmented inks. Most photographers selling inkjet prints on photo-like paper refer to them as “photographs” or inkjet prints.

To be truly considered a giclée, a print should:

Begin with a high quality digital file, either from professionally scanned film, digital capture or computer created art that has been color worked and profiled for the intended output.
Be printed using state-of-the-art inkjet printers which have been calibrated in a closed-loop color management system.
Be printed with archival pigmented inks, specifically formulated for the substrate.
Be printed on an archival watercolor paper or canvas
Be printed by a master printer, who has demonstrated thorough understanding of color theory and imaging software and who has the experience and artistic talent to interpret and replicate your artistic vision.

find out more about mounting a canvas http://www.ehow.com/videos-on_7462_canvas-art-reproduction-stretching-finishing.html

Can you stretch injet canvas? The info below comes from an artist using PremierArt Water resistant Canvas
Allow at least 24 hours (48 is better) drying time for the printed canvases.
Stretch the dried prints on wooden stretcher strips and staple, pretty much like you would a regular canvas painting. You begin with one side and staple in the center of the side (or on the back if you have enough canvas to pull to the back and don't want to see staples on the side edges - either is acceptable). Then, you switch to the opposite side, pull tight (with fingers or you can use canvas stretching pliers) and put a staple in the middle. Then do the other two sides. Once you have all four sides with at least one staple, you can begin pulling the canvas tight on the first side you started with, and stapling down the edge, leaving some space at the corners (you will do corners later). Repeat with the opposite side and then move onto the third and fourth sides.

Now you have to make nice corners. This gets tricky but what you are basically doing is wrapping a package. You want your corners to be neat and not too bulky.

Here is a site that illustrates canvas stretching:

http://www2.evansville.edu/studiochalkboard/p-canvas.html

After the canvas is stretched, you might want to use a product called Tight'N Up canvas retensioner, sprayed on the back, to ensure the canvas is tight (but not overtight). You also might seal the image after stretching with a product called PremierArt Print Shield Laquer.

File storage options include uncompressed raw files and a new completely lossless compression which reduces the size of the RAW files by half. To accommodate these new larger files, Leaf is also introducing a new Leaf Digital Magazine with a 30GB capacity to provide longer shooting sessions. The new Leaf Aptus backs also feature an extended ISO range from 50-800.
